What is an Ophthalmologist?
An Ophthalmologist is a physician who specializes in the medical and surgical care of the eyes and the prevention of eye disease. An Ophthalmologist is licensed to practice medicine and surgery, can diagnose and treat all eye diseases, perform delicate eye surgery, and prescribe and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses.
Ophthalmologists must complete four years of college, four years of medical school, one year of medical internship, and at least three years of residency in the diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment of eye disorders before they can be licensed.

Dr. Natalie Stanciu is a Board-Certified physician and surgeon and Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. She specializes in orbital tumors and trauma, and oculoplastic surgery. Dr. Stanley Saulny is a Board-Certified physician and surgeon who specializes in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery of the upper face and eyelids, as well as general ophthalmology.
He specializes in eye plastic surgery for cosmetic purposes, rehabilitation (like car accidents or facial burns), age-related changes (like droopy lids), and reconstruction after removal of facial tumors. Dr. Saulny obtained his undergraduate degree from the United States Air Force Academy, where he studied engineering, followed by a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California.
After serving as an engineer and captain in the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Saulny attended Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He continued traveling, and completed his Internship in Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation, and his Residency in Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Institute in Los Angeles, California.
