We live in an ever changing digital world where our eyes are constantly staring at some type of screen. As a result, we develop eye strain.
HOW DOES USING DIGITAL DEVICES HURT OUR EYES?
There are a host of reasons, but the most common is Blue Light.
Blue Light: Digital devices emit high energy short wavelengths of light and our eyes are more sensitive to the high amount of energy that is produced.
Muscle Strain: Our digital world is relativity a short distance. In other word, our eyes are never staring off into the sunset but remain a few inches away from the device in use resulting in eye strain. Think of standing on your feet all day and not sitting down to relax your leg muscles.
Symptoms:
Headaches
Neck and shoulder strain
Dry, irritated or red eyes
Blurred vision
HOW CAN YOU DECREASE DIGITAL EYE STRAIN
LIMIT SCREEN TIME! Cut back time spent on devices.
Utilize the 20/20/20 Rule. Set a timer for 20 minutes to remind you to look away from the screen. Close your eyes for 20 seconds [ hum a few bars of your favorite song] then look off at a distance for 20 seconds. REPEAT. After a few days off setting the timer you may find yourself closing your eyes before it goes off. This rule will relax your eyes.
BLINK!! Digital devices drastically reduce our blink time.
Remember to take a break and enjoy the world beyond your device.
