How Much Does LASIK Cost in Austin?
It’s the first question almost everyone asks about LASIK, and the one most practices answer least clearly. Here’s the plain version: what LASIK costs in Austin, what that price should include, and how to tell a fair quote from a bait-and-switch.
Westlake Eye Specialists has performed LASIK in Central Texas for more than two decades, and we’ve watched the pricing conversation get more confusing, not less. Billboard prices, “starting at” offers, and per-eye numbers that quietly exclude the parts that matter make it hard to compare apples to apples. This guide is meant to fix that.
The Future of Vision… Today!
The short answer
In Austin, all-laser, bladeless LASIK performed by a board-certified ophthalmologist typically runs in the range of roughly $2,000 to $3,500 per eye, with most patients investing somewhere around $5,000 for both eyes when the procedure includes the technology, the surgeon’s care, and the follow-up visits it should. That’s consistent with the figures in our own Austin Vision Correction Cost Calculator.
Your exact price depends on your prescription, your corneal measurements, and whether LASIK is even the right procedure for your eyes — which is why no practice can quote you accurately before an evaluation. What we can do is tell you what the number should cover.
What a LASIK price should include
A fair, all-inclusive LASIK quote covers everything from the first measurement to your final follow-up. Ask any practice whether these are included before you compare numbers:
- A comprehensive candidacy evaluation — corneal thickness and mapping, prescription stability, pupil size, tear film, and overall eye health. This is the step that determines whether LASIK is safe for you.
- All-laser, bladeless technology — a femtosecond laser to create the flap and an excimer laser to reshape the cornea. Older microkeratome (blade) methods are cheaper to offer and are often what’s behind a rock-bottom price.
- Your surgeon, in the room, for the whole procedure — and available afterward. At some discount centers, the surgeon you meet at the consult isn’t the one who operates.
- Post-operative visits for at least the first several months, plus the medicated drops you’ll need.
- Enhancement policy — what happens if your vision needs a touch-up down the road, and whether that’s covered.
Why the “$250 per eye” ads don’t add up
You’ve seen the offers. The fine print usually explains them: the advertised price applies only to very mild prescriptions with no astigmatism, uses older technology, excludes the pre-op evaluation and post-op care, and expires the moment your eyes turn out to be like most people’s. Patients who go in for the $250 price routinely walk out with a quote several times higher — and with a decision made under pressure.
We’d rather you see a real number up front. Everything in our LASIK pricing is disclosed at your evaluation, before you commit to anything, and it doesn’t change once you’re in the chair.
LASIK vs. a lifetime of glasses and contacts
The other half of the cost question is what you’re already spending. Between annual exams, contact lenses, solutions, and replacement glasses, a typical contact-lens wearer in Austin spends somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,000 to $1,300 every year. Over ten years, that’s $9,000 to $13,000 — and it never stops. LASIK is a one-time investment, and for most patients it pays for itself in four to five years.
| Glasses & contacts | LASIK | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost structure | Recurring, every year | One-time |
| 10-year estimate | $9,000–$13,000+ | ~$5,000 (both eyes) |
| Typical break-even | — | 4–5 years |
| HSA / FSA eligible | Yes | Yes |
| Monthly financing available | No | Yes |

How Austin patients pay for LASIK
Because LASIK is elective, most vision insurance plans don’t cover it, though some offer a member discount worth asking about. In practice, our patients use a few common approaches:
- HSA and FSA funds. LASIK is an eligible medical expense, so you can pay with pre-tax dollars. With FSA plans, the fall is a good time to plan — unused funds often don’t roll over.
- Monthly financing. Westlake Eye Specialists accepts CareCredit® and Alphaeon® Credit, both of which offer promotional plans that spread the cost into monthly payments many patients find comparable to what they were already spending on contacts.
- Paying in full at the time of surgery. Simple, and it avoids any interest.
Details on all of these are on our insurance and financing page.
The Visual Freedom LASIK Grant: 50% off LASIK. For a limited time, Westlake Eye Specialists is offering half-price LASIK to the first 100 patients who complete their procedure. Eligibility is confirmed at your consultation. Check your eligibility →
What if LASIK isn’t the right procedure?
A meaningful share of people who come in for LASIK turn out to be better served by something else — PRK for thin corneas or contact sports, EVO ICL for high prescriptions, or Refractive Lens Exchange for patients over 45 who also want to be free of reading glasses. Each has its own pricing, and we’ll walk you through it. Because Westlake Eye Specialists offers the full spectrum of vision correction, the evaluation drives the recommendation — not the price list. If you’d like a preliminary sense of your candidacy first, our free Vision Correction Self-Test takes a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions
How much does LASIK cost in Austin?
All-laser, bladeless LASIK from a board-certified ophthalmologist in Austin typically costs roughly $2,000 to $3,500 per eye, with most patients investing around $5,000 for both eyes when the price includes the evaluation, modern laser technology, the surgeon’s care, and post-operative visits. Your exact price depends on your prescription and corneal measurements, so an evaluation is required for an accurate quote.
Why is some LASIK advertised for $250 per eye?
Those prices usually apply only to very mild prescriptions with no astigmatism, use older technology, and exclude the pre-operative evaluation and follow-up care. Most patients don’t qualify for the advertised price and receive a much higher quote at the consultation. Compare all-inclusive prices, not starting prices.
Does insurance cover LASIK?
Most vision insurance plans do not cover LASIK because it is an elective procedure, although some plans offer a member discount. LASIK is an eligible expense for HSA and FSA accounts, so many patients pay with pre-tax dollars.
Can I finance LASIK?
Yes. Westlake Eye Specialists accepts CareCredit® and Alphaeon® Credit, which offer promotional financing plans that break the cost into monthly payments. Many patients find the monthly payment comparable to what they were already spending on contact lenses and solutions.
Is LASIK worth the cost compared to contacts and glasses?
For most patients, yes. A typical contact-lens wearer spends roughly $1,000 to $1,300 per year on exams, lenses, solutions, and glasses — $9,000 to $13,000 or more over ten years. LASIK is a one-time investment of around $5,000 for both eyes and usually pays for itself within four to five years.
What is the Visual Freedom LASIK Grant?
The Visual Freedom LASIK Grant is a limited-time offer from Westlake Eye Specialists providing 50% off LASIK to the first 100 patients who complete their procedure. Eligibility is confirmed during your LASIK consultation.
